Dem forum will take on reb bloc
ALBANY — Critics of a breakaway group of eight state Senate Democrats are taking the fight right to the district of the leader of the independent Dems.
Mainline Senate Democratic leader Andrea Stewart-Cousins and liberal activist and Fordham Law Prof. Zephyr Teachout will headline an anti-Independent Democratic Conference event on Nov. 12.
The community forum, sponsored by the IDC Action Group of New York, will take place at Lehman College. That’s in the Bronx district of Sen. Jeffrey Klein, head of the breakaway Democrats whose alliance with the Republicans has let the GOP control the chamber.
Stewart-Cousins and Teachout are slated to discuss the IDC coalition with the Senate GOP and how, in the age of President Trump, it blocks progressive bills that passed the Assembly.
One critical Democratic insider said that “if the Democrats in the minority in the Senate spend as much time and energy making their case against the Republicans as they do other Democrats, they would not need the IDC members to achieve a majority. It’s pitiful.”
