Mhas no regrets about not throwing his hat into the ring for the 2016 presidential campaign. “I couldn’t have won,” he conceded between bites at the International Rescue Committee’s Freedom Award Dinner where he was honored alongside actress “I was going to run as an Independent and you can’t win as an Independent,” he explained before noting that as a pro-choice, pro-gay rights, pro-gun control candidate, “I would never get through a Republican primary and it would be very hard in a Democratic primary.” The ex-mayor is clearly no fan of the New Yorker who did become President. Nor does he agree with U.S. policy decisions regarding bloodshed in Syria. “I think America should have put some boots on the ground and done something in Syria,” he said. “500,000 people were killed there. We did nothing.” For Bloomberg, the carnage there rings familiar.
“I criticized Europeans for not doing anything about the Jews in the 1930s,” he continued, “And we just did the same thing. I think some of the (Trump) policies I’ve heard espoused are really so inappropriate, it’s hard to describe.” That said, the billionaire says he’s not shocked by anything The Donald says, does or tweets.
“I’m 75 years old and I think I have enough experience not to be surprised - sadly,” he confessed.
