Amazing grace in Texas horror

- BY RICH SCHAPIRO

THE DAUGHTER of the associate pastor killed in the Texas church shooting along with his wife and six other family members spoke out for the first time Friday.

In a touching video posted to Facebook, Sarah Slavin (photo) said her deeply religious parents would have happily given their lives to spread God’s word.

“They would have gladly volunteered to have been killed in this way if they knew that it meant that the world was viewing the sermons from their church,” Slavin said.

“And that the world was seeing what a Christ-filled life is like.”

Slavin lost three generations of her family in the Sunday slaughter at the First Baptist Church in Sutherland Springs.

Killed in the mass shooting were her parents Bryan and Karla Holcombe, their son Marc Holcombe and their pregnant daughter-in-law Crystal Holcombe.

Four of their grandchildren — Noah, Emily, Greg and Megan — were also slain during services in the tiny church.

The shooting also claimed the life of Slavin’s childhood best friend, Tara McNulty.

Slavin said her parents lived their lives devoted to the church — and to helping others.

“Dad used to play the ukulele at church and in the prison,” she said. “Mom used to feed the homeless at the shelter and she did bread runs every single week for the past 10 or so years for the food pantry.”

Slavin never once mentioned the name of the gunman, Devin Kelley, who killed himself after taking two bullets from a gun-packing neighbor of the church.

Instead, she focused on the goodness of her parents.

“They would want you to know that that love and joy and peace that you’re seeing in all of their actions and their lives is available to everyone,” Slavin said. “And it’s free and it’s simple.”

They’re at peace right now,” she added. “I keep feeling that peace. It’s very tangible and undeniable.”
