Old Vic theater says sorry for Spacey slime

- Nicole Bitette

AT LEAST 20 more people say Kevin Spacey made them uncomfortable or was sexually inappropriate while he worked as artistic director of the Old Vic, according to an investigation the London theater conducted.

The allegations all came from young men, and none accused Spacey, who was artistic director from 2004 to 2015, of rape, The Guardian reported.

“The Old Vic apologizes wholeheartedly to the people who told us that they have been affected,” said Kate Varah, the theatre’s executive director, according to the paper’s website. “We’ve learned that it is not enough to have the right process in place. Everyone needs to feel able to speak out no matter who they are.”

The theater has taken heat for not saying much as Spacey’s career has imploded amid the sex scandal.

“We have not slept since this came out because we have been working incredibly hard to do this in a robust and detailed and measured and careful way,” Varah told The Guardian of the theater’s investigation.

The Old Vic also said none of the people coming forward now ever raised concerns previously.

“No legal claims, formal grievances, formal disputes, settlement agreements or payments made or authorized were made at all in relation to Kevin Spacey during his tenure,” a statement from the theater said.

“It has also not been possible to verify any of these allegations, and it is important to note that Kevin Spacey has not commented.”
