Moore: YOu step down, McConnell

- Leonard Greene

EMBATTLED Republican Alabama Senate candidate Roy Moore on Thursday said allegations that he sexually harassed women and girls won’t push him out of the race — and he instead called on the GOP’s Senate leader to step down.

Moore once again forcefully denied the accusations, and laced into Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell, who had called on Moore to step aside.

“Many of you have recognized that this is an effort by Mitch McConnell and his cronies to steal this election from the people of Alabama, and they will not stand for it,” Moore told reporters.

“I want to tell you who needs to step down. That’s Mitch McConnell.”

Eight women have accused Moore of sexually harassing or assaulting them, most when they were in their teens. The latest accusation comes from two woman who said Moore made overtures to them while they were teenagers at an Alabama mall.

But Moore said that incident, and the others, never happened.

“They are not only untrue,” Moore said, “but they have no evidence to support them.”

Moore’s support was waning in all corners of the country, including the White House.

“The President said in his statement earlier this week if the allegations are true then that Roy Moore should step aside,” said White House press secretary Sarah Huckabee Sanders.
