Abortion truce at Qns. College

- Andrew Keshner Erin Durkin

A QUEENS College anti-abortion student group ended its legal beef with the school on Wednesday.

Queens College Students For Life complained that the school denied its efforts to become a registered student organization in November 2016.

A lawsuit filed in Brooklyn Federal Court alleged the school was teaching a bad lesson that free speech wasn’t for everyone.

Queens College said it approved the group in January.

The case was settled on Wednesday, court papers show. Lawyers for the students say the deal will impact how student groups become approved.

Queens College said it was pleased to resolve the matter. ICE AGENTS and other federal law enforcement officials will be barred from private areas of city property under legislation passed by the City Council on Thursday.

The bill says nonlocal law enforcement personnel are not allowed onto city property that isn’t accessible to the general public unless they have a warrant, the city has a cooperative agreement with them, or special circumstances exist.

Councilman Carlos Menchaca (D-Brooklyn) said the protections, which the mayor is expected to sign, would encourage “families, immigrants, and every New Yorker . . . to report crimes in their communities.”
