Gang WR Robby gaining respect with TD streak

In a matter of five months this offseason, Robby Anderson’s NFL life changed forever.

After spending his rookie season as the Jets’ fourth wide receiver, learning and growing under the tutelage of seasoned veterans like Brandon Marshall and Eric Decker, the undrafted rookie out of Temple was thrust into the spotlight this summer. As part of a roster overhaul, the Jets cut Marshall in March and Decker in June. Two months later, Quincy Enunwa — the Jets’ most experience­d receiver — suffered a season-ending neck injury in a 7-on-7 drill.

That left Anderson and his 42 career catches as the offense’s top option. Doubt and speculatio­n proliferat­ed. Questions were posed. Is Anderson ready to be a No. 1 receiver? How will he handle the extra attention and better cornerback­s?

Through 10 games, Anderson has answered that uncertaint­y by chasing franchise history. With his fourth-quarter touchdown reception in Sunday’s loss to the Bucs, Anderson became the 13th player in Jets history to catch a touchdown in four consecutiv­e games. The streak is still alive as the Jets (4-6) enjoy their bye week and prepare to play the Panthers next weekend at home. The team record is seven straight games, set by Santana Moss in 2003.

Last year, Anderson flashed his potential. This year, he’s proven he belongs. Now what’s next?

“I’m trying to become one of the best to do it. That’s what I’m working for,” Anderson told the Daily News at his locker last week. “The sky is the limit, and when it’s all said and done, I’m trying to be remembered as one of the best.”
