Subway’s new crumble bumble
REBUILD THAT wall.
Debris from a crumbling wall inside the tunnel of a Brooklyn subway station jolted the transit system Sunday morning after it fell onto the track as a train was pulling into the station, an MTA official said.
The southbound R train, which was 10 cars long, was coming into the 86th St. station in Bay Ridge about 5:30 a.m.
The first nine cars rolled through, but the prefab panel became “wedged between the rail and wheels” of the final car, Metropolitan Transportation Authority spokesman Jon Weinstein said. The wheels never left the track.
None of the 30 straphangers aboard the train was injured, according to authorities. Passengers exited onto the station platform.
The MTA provided shuttle buses for those whose underground travel plans had been derailed.
The R train resumed service but bypassed the 86th St. stop while the MTA inspected the station walls. The station reopened later in the day.
The MTA was investigating Sunday, officials said.
