Immigrant from China vanishes on Lower East Side

- John Annese

A NEWLY ARRIVED Chinese immigrant disappeared from his Lower East Side apartment nearly two weeks ago and hasn’t returned, cops said Wednesday.

Police are asking for help in finding Quanwei Li, 43, who doesn’t know the city streets and speaks only Chinese, said Sgt. Brendan Ryan, an NYPD spokesman. Li suffers from several health problems, cops said.

Li left his apartment on Pitt St. near Stanton St. at 8:20 p.m. on Nov. 18, telling his brother he was going to look for his wife, cops said. She returned home, but he didn’t. Cops are asking anyone with information to call (800) 577-TIPS. A FORMER hip-hop and rap promoter known as Jimmy Henchman has been found guilty in New York of ordering the killing of a friend of rapper 50 Cent.

A federal jury Tuesday convicted James Rosemond on murder-for-hire charges. Rosemond was accused of hiring a crew to kill an associate of the rap group GUnit as payback for an assault on Rosemond’s son.

It was Rosemond’s third trial in the case. The first ended in a hung jury. Rosemond was convicted in the second, but a new trial was ordered. Rosemond already was serving two life sentences for separate drug and gun convictions.

Rosemond’s lawyer claimed witnesses were only trying to reduce their own jail sentences.

G-Unit associate Lodi Mack was killed in 2009.
