‘Go get ’em,’ Trump tells Alabama teen-creep
PRESIDENT TRUMP officially endorsed Alabama Senate candidate Roy Moore on Monday — despite allegations he sexually assaulted a woman when she was 14.
“Go get ’em Roy!” Moore quoted the President as saying during a phone call on Monday.
Trump, who previously denounced Moore’s rival, Doug Jones, backed the disgraced former judge earlier in the morning.
“Democrats refusal to give even one vote for massive Tax Cuts is why we need Republican Roy Moore to win in Alabama,” he said in a tweet just after 6 a.m.
“We need his vote on stopping crime, illegal immigration, Border Wall, Military, Pro Life, V.A., Judges 2nd Amendment and more. No to Jones, a Pelosi/Schumer Puppet!”
The Republican National Committee quickly announced it would again be supporting Moore, after turning off the fund-raising spigot last month. It wasn’t immediately clear what that support would entail. An RNC official late Monday confirmed the reversal, which Breitbart News was the first to report.
The White House previously said Moore should step down if there was truth to the allegations, which include claims that he molested a 14-year-old and sexually assaulted a 16-yearold in the late 1970s when he was in his 30s.
Moore was thrilled with the endorsement, tweeting he “just got off the phone with President Trump who offered his full support and said he needs a fighter to help him in the US Senate. I look forward to fighting alongside the President to #MAGA!”
Though many other senior Republicans have called for their party’s candidate to drop out, Trump — who’d backed Moore rival Luther Strange during the GOP primary — has repeatedly gone after Jones as a “puppet” of the Democratic leadership.
A few hours after Trump’s tweets, former GOP presidential nominee Mitt Romney — who’s been weighing a run for Senate in Utah — spoke out against Moore, tweeting his election “would be a stain on the GOP and on the nation. Leigh Corfman and other victims are courageous heroes. No vote, no majority is worth losing our honor, our integrity.”
Hours after the endorsement, The Washington Post published an interview with a woman who says she dated Moore when she was 17 and he was in his 30s. Moore previously denied knowing the woman — which led her to dig up her scrapbook and share it with the paper. It included a card he gave her for her graduation.
The handwritten note says, “Happy graduation Debbie, I wanted to give you this card myself. I know that you’ll be a success in anything you do. Roy.”
