Sweep hits 20 deadly ‘Dream’ dealer susps
TWENTY MEMBERS of Brooklyn drug crews were charged Thursday with dealing deadly heroin and fentanyl, police said.
The opioids were bagged with the stamp “American Dream” and the Statue of Liberty, and are responsible for two overdose deaths, cops said.
Ringleader Akeem King, 29, stashed his drugs in the Tompkins Houses and had at least 14 people working for him, selling thousands of vials a week out of housing developments, authorities said.
Police started looking into King in September 2016, and used wiretaps to ensnare him.
King and his underlings allegedly peddled the potent drugs near Myrtle Ave. between Marcus Garvey Blvd. and Throop Ave. close to the Sumner Houses and the Tompkins Houses, two cityrun public housing developments.
In February 2017, investigators identified King’s supplier, Robert Gonzalez — who allegedly sold him more than $10,000 worth of heroin at a clip.
Gonzalez, 40, is accused of selling the narcotics to a street dealer named Darren Lee.
Lee allegedly sold the toxic cocktail to a 33-year-old New Jersey mom who died of an overdose on a Brooklyn subway train on Dec. 29, 2016.
She had five envelopes of “American Dreams” on her when she was found.
“That woman overdosed fatally on those drugs within an hour of that transaction,” prosecutor Laura Wright said at the pushers’ arraignments.
An analysis showed the drugs consisted of heroin and two types of fentanyl.
