5 major moves at top of agenda for next Big Blue GM and coach
Sunday restores Eli Manning as the Giants’ starting quarterback but just as easily could kick off the final leg of the Eli Manning Farewell Tour. A new general manager and head coach likely will hold a topthree pick in April’s draft, and unless something changes in Manning’s performance and attitude towards being only a placeholder for the future, there won’t be much of an argument for bringing Manning back to the Giants in 2018.
The new GM’s decision on Manning ultimately will dictate the direction of the franchise, but it’s not the only major call he’ll have to make to determine how the Giants rebound from this unprecedented disaster of a season.
Here, then, are the top five franchisealtering calls the new GM and coach will have to make this offseason, since Sunday’s game against the Dallas Cowboys at MetLife Stadium doesn’t matter for this 2-10 team outside of its draft position: end of his Giants tenure, but his loyal fans who rushed to Manning’s aid in their No. 10 jerseys last week should soak it all in now because this easily could be it. Manning, in fact, should start making a stronger case for himself with his play on Sunday if he wants to stay.
“You know, I’m not worried about the end. I’m worried about playing a game, go do my job, go try to beat the Dallas Cowboys, and end on some positive notes this season,” Manning said. “And then go from there.”
