Council probe is ‘nameless’
A CITY COUNCIL committee confirmed an investigation Friday into one of its own — without identifying Bronx Councilman Andy King as the target.
The non-announcement from the Standards and Ethics Committee came after the members emerged from a private lower Manhattan meeting.
“To protect the confidentiality of individuals who report misconduct — and to ensure that in the future people feel comfortable coming forward with complaints — the Committee voted to keep all proceedings confidential while this matter is under review,” read a statement issued afterward.
The Daily News has reported that Bronx Democrat King was facing a probe over a complaint from a Council staffer that he made inappropriate and sexually suggestive remarks.
King, who faced similar accusations in 2015, has yet to comment on the current investigation.
Two years ago, a King staffer accused him of making sexual advances and then firing the woman when she rejected his overtures.
The woman filed a notice of claim for a $1.25 million lawsuit against the city over King’s behavior. But no suit was ever filed.
