Bborn to lunch. Surely and knew that enjoying a quiet lunch in lower in Manhattan was unlikely, but they gave it a shot anyway. The rockers popped into Old Homestead Steakhouse late Thursday afternoon, where “a near riot” ensued, according to one onlooker. “Staff had to do everything it could to keep holiday revelers from mobbing the icons,” we’re told. Our spy says that Little Steven and The Boss shared surf and turf and discussed politics for a while, then Van Zandt talked about his upcoming policeman’s ball at the Mandarin Oriental Hotel. That benefit, which raises money for the Detectives’ Endowment Association Widows and Children’s Fund, annually attracts Van Zandt pals including his bandmate and former “Sopranos” co-stars and

Springsteen and Van Zandt could have used a police escort after their lunch was over.

“It took them 10 minutes to leave the restaurant because as they made their way toward the exit, they paused and smiled for everyone who wanted to snap a photo,” we’re told.

As a parting gift, the restaurant’s owner,

(inset with Springsteen and Van Zandt), game both men a set of steak knives and a bottle of the meatery’s secret steak sauce. Sherry contributes a portion of his steak sauce sales to the annual Little Steven’s Policeman’s Ball, which is in its third year. Last year the event generated $200,000.

While Van Zandt is staying busy with his upcoming fund-raiser, Bruce has been busily raising the roof at the Walter Kerr Theatre, where his “Springsteen on Broadway” show has been running since Oct. 12. The theater announced on Thursday that the final block of tickets for that show, which ends June 30, will go on sale on Tuesday. A bass guitar played by Dee Dee Ramone sold for nearly $36,000 through online bidding site rrauction.com last week. Also on the block was Buddy Holly’s Coral Records contract for the master of “Peggy Sue” and “Everyday,” which went for $14,649 and a pair of jeans signed by the members of Nirvana during their “In Utero” tour, which fetched $4,900. Brad Delp’s collection Super 8 movies from Boston’s 1979 Japanese tour sold for $4,401.
