Violence rolls on after Don Jerusalem shock
VIOLENT CLASHES erupted in Gaza on Friday, leaving two Palestinians dead as fa llout over President Trump’s recognition of Jerusalem as Israel’s capital continued.
A day earlier, an overwhelmingly majority of United Nations member countries voted to declare U.S. action on Jerusalem “null and void” — despite Trump’s threats of cutting funding.
Gaza Health Ministry spokesman Ashraf al-Kidra said that two men, a 24-year-old and a 29-year-old, were killed as violence flared up along the Israeli border. Another 45 Palestinians were wounded, he said.
The Islamist group Hamas called for a day of rage and joined protests along the Gaza border and across the West Bank.
The Israeli military said thousands of demonstrators were “hurling firebombs and rocks and rolling burning tires” at Israeli forces.
Troops responded with tear gas and live ammunition at people they deemed as “instigators.”
Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas insisted he’ll no longer accept any U.S. plans for Mideast peace because of the Trump’s position.
The city is at the center of the Israeli-Palestinian conflict as both sides lay claim to it as their capital.
The UN vote came after Trump and U.S. ambassador Nikki Haley threatened to cut off funds to countries that voted against America.Israel on Friday announced it is leaving the UN cultural agency over “systematic attacks” on the Jewish state.
