Gene, gene, the dating machine

- BY CONSTANCE GIBBS Pheramor will use DNA samples and an algorithm to detect the potential for chemistry between users.

DATING chemistry has a whole new meaning.

Creators of a new dating app have ditched the questionnaire approach to finding true love.

The key to happiness, they say, is in the DNA.

“Scientists can actually predict who’s attracted to whom,” said Brittany Barreto, the brain behind Pheramor, a dating app that uses clients’ DNA and social media profiles to help them with the hookup. “It has to do with your pheromones.”

Barreto told the Houston Chronicle that the scientific approach to love is as simple as a cheek swab.

From there, Pheramor, the latest entry in the $2 billion dating app industry, analyzes 11 genes that scientists have linked to attraction.

“I won’t know what you look like, what your heritage is, what your disease status is,” Barreto said.

“I won't know any of that. All I know is the 11 genes for attractions, from which I'll know who you think is hot and who you won’t like.” a The algorithms produce profile with attraction genes and the participant’s social media that will match up with others in the system.

The app is focused on young professionals between ages 18 and 44 who don’t have time or patience for filling out profiles.

The app will launch on Feb. 10, 2018, just in time for Valentine’s Day.
