Juror felt ‘guilty’ heat
PHARMA drama.
A juror in the freshly finished case against Martin Shkreli’s lawyer said he felt pushed into a vote to finish the marathon trial, which ended in a guilty verdict.
The day after Evan Greebel was convicted on two conspiracy counts, a disgruntled juror called Brooklyn Federal Judge Kiyo Matsumoto’s chambers and vented to a clerk. The man said he felt pressured into making a decision, even though he wanted to review more evidence from the 10-week trial.
The juror told the clerk that if he didn’t vote — after three days of deliberations — fellow jurors said they’d try to have him removed.
Matsumoto disclosed last week’s call in court Friday.
With its guilty verdict, jurors believed prosecutors’ accounts of how Greebel helped Shkreli fleece his pharmaceutical company to pay back his hedge fund investors.
