Jeter: i get Fish fans’ ire

-

Derek Jeter acknowledged he has made unpopular decisions in the offseason since taking over the Miami Marlins as a part owner.

Since taking over as chief executive, Jeter has traded away Giancarlo Stanton, Dee Gordon, Marcell Ozuna and Christian Yelich.

“I understand the frustration of a fan,” Jeter said. “The bottom line the way I looked at it was it’s been a challenge for us getting people to the stadium for years. And from everything I have heard, the challenge is because there has not been a winning product on the field. So if there is not a winning product on the field, you have to make a change. It’s a team that has not been to the postseason since 2003 and hasn’t had a winning record in years. And in my mind that’s unacceptable and it should be unacceptable for the fans. The only way for us to fix that is to make some changes.”

JAMES SINKS T-WOLVES

LeBron James hit a jumper over Jimmy Butler at the buzzer in overtime, giving the host Cleveland Cavaliers a 140-138 win over the Minnesota Timberwolves.

Moments after James blocked Butler’s potential game-winning shot with 1.3 seconds left, he caught a long pass from Jeff Green, created some space from Butler near the foul line and sank his fade-away shot to end Cleveland’s eight-game losing streak on national television.

l James Harden scored 41 points and the visiting Houston Rockets beat the Miami Heat 109-101 for their sixth straight victory and 10th in 11 games.

BURROWS BANNED

Ottawa forward Alexandre Burrows was suspended for 10 games without pay by the NHL for serving as the aggressor in an altercation and kneeing Devils forward Taylor Hall.

SETON HALL FALLS AGAIN

Markus Howard scored 32 points and Marquette breathed a little life into its NCAA Tournament hopes by snapping a fourgame losing streak with an 88-85 victory over host Seton Hall. Desi Rodridguez had 21 points to lead Seton Hall (17-7, 6-5), which has lost four of its last six. Myles Powell had 18 points, Khadeen Carrington added 15 points and Angel Delgado had 11 for the Pirates, who lost the game at the freethrow line, making 20 of 33.
