A place in hell for the enablers

-

Bronx: Hell is waiting with open arms for the NRA (led by Wayne LaPierre, right) and all politicians who think it is their right to buy and use guns for whatever they want. May the flame that burns in their souls and hearts release the burns of those left behind. God bless our children. Sally DeFelice Uniondale, L.I.: My heart aches for all of the families that lost someone in Florida, Connecticut, Las Vegas and other places, where a person with a military-type weapon went on a shooting spree. Babies were among the victims in Connecticut. I really thought after Connecticut that Congress would do something. Nothing has been done. Congress doesn’t even discuss a solution. We have a bunch of congresspeople who are in their own little world. We the voters can take care of this Congress by voting them out. They are heartless people who will not vote for some kind of gun reform. They say it’s too soon to talk about it. Children go to school to learn. They should not be stressed out, thinking, “Am I safe in school?” I urge every young person, every older person: If you are not already voting, please register today. We must put people in office who care about us. Geneva Hunter

Vote for life

Linden, N.J.: Voters, do not reelect any legislator who cannot tell you what they have done to prevent gun violence. Vote for no one who will not tell you what they promise to do to prevent gun violence, who will not refuse to accept money from the NRA. Unless we resolve to do this, our dead shall have died in vain.

Strike to wake Washington

Brooklyn: I think it is a great idea for the high school kids to march on Washington on March 24. But I have a better idea. I would tell all high schools, colleges and grammar schools to go on strike, like on a regular job. That will get Congress to wake up. If the kids don’t go to school for a week or two, you’ll see how Washington wakes. P.S., the whole country should have gone on strike when President Reagan fired the air traffic controllers.

Ban them

Yardley, Pa.: Obviously, there is a mental factor in anyone taking another’s life. The use of an AR-15 just makes it easier. AR-15s and all assault weapons should be banned, as there is no place for them in a civilized civilian society. Period.

James B. Marinnie II

Death for sale

Brooklyn: Once again there is a mass shooting, at a school. There are 17 dead. The shooter is a 19-year-old who bought the assault weapon, legally, last year. This means that he was 17 or 18 when he bought the gun. Could someone tell me why anyone would sell a teenager an assault weapon? Was the dealer so desperate for money that he didn’t care? I’m sure the gun dealer is sleeping peacefully. There are 17 sets of parents and other relatives, and possibly more as time goes on, who sure aren’t. I haven’t heard one word of regret from the NRA, and we won’t until the next victim is a member of the family in the NRA. How sad.

Sick fame

Manhattan: Andy Warhol’s “In the future everyone will be famous for 15 minutes” prediction is partially true. Everyone in our time wants to be famous, and for every reason. Adults and youngsters alike are obsessed with famous celebrities, an obsession celebrities encourage out of ego and career ambition; they are feeding a monster they can’t see because they’re blinded by a spotlight they can’t bear to be away from. These shooters are motivated primarily by a maniacal need to be famous, too, and although their lack of empathy and romantic view of violence, nurtured by blood-and-guts movies and video games, provides their sociopathic game plan, it all begins with their obsession to be famous. If they can’t own a gun they will build a bomb out of a pressure cooker.

Bad Bramhall

Astoria: To Bramhall: President Trump has about as much to do with school gun violence as you do. Joe Ametrano

Get the guns out

East Patchogue, L.I.: Why can’t schools put metal detectors at every entrance along with security cameras? Making it more difficult to get guns would help.

Catherine Lo Curto

None whatsoever

Brooklyn: Re he who protests too much: The more President Trump keeps repeating ad nauseam “There is no collusion,” the guiltier he appears.

Nancy D. Bennett

A Pence for your thoughts

Levittown, L.I.: The President cannot fire the vice president. His dismissal requires a vote of the House of Representatives and a two-thirds vote in the Senate. It’s time for Vice President Pence to step up and speak the truth on behalf of the people of this country, which has always been great.

Tearing down walls

Yonkers: Dear Mr. President: I am a Republican who voted for you because I followed your history and noticed you consistently got the job done — whatever it was. But I do not agree with the wall between Mexico and the United States. Walls consistently fail. The Great Wall of China is now a tourist attraction and did not succeed in keeping the Mongols out of China. And Hadrian’s Wall, built to keep the Scots out of England, still exists, but the Queen of England is half Scottish. Then there is “Tear down that wall, Mr. Gorbachev.” Gen. Lucius Clay succeeded in feeding West Berlin in the famous Berlin Airlift. Mankind and womankind will not stand for a wall. But if you really want to make America great again, tear down our enormous national debt. Then America will be great and so will you.

Weak on Atlas

Ozone Park: Shame on ESPN. How could you people remove Teddy Atlas from your boxing program? The man told things the way they are, about bad judges and the way boxing is run by people who know nothing about the sport. The program is very boring without Atlas. You have lost a longtime fan. Shame on you. Manny Epstein

Wrong numbers

Mount Vernon, N.Y.: Telemarketers rent unused four-digit phone numbers from wholesalers or from phone companies. They then can use any area code and exchange to make calls. When a complaint is made to the Federal Trade Commission, the telemarketers change the area code, the exchange or any of the four digits they have rented, and continue making the calls. The FTC sends a robocall to the number, not to the telemarketer. If you call the number, a recording usually states that it is “not in service.” The FTC does nothing to stop them. Charles Roda

Maniacs on our streets

Elmont, L.I.: I have a problem with the maniacs on the Southern State Parkway, and more recently on the streets, who swerve in and out of lanes at high speeds, sometimes two or three of them chasing each other, playing chicken, maybe . . . what fun! They are endangering and at the very least scaring and upsetting careful drivers who don’t think of their cars as toys. I myself was actually hit by one of these dangerous mental cases, who came close enough to dent my car and break AFP PHOTO/JIM WATSON off my mirror. Luckily for me and my sister, we were in the right lane and not the middle lane, where I might have hit some other innocent driver. I thank God. Can’t something be done to stop this illegal, reckless, dangerous and stupid behavior of these people who have no regard for themselves and even less for others?

Poor, tired and cold

Richmond Hill: Here we go again! Once more I open my property tax bill for 2018. Up again, with no reciprocity or quid pro quo from the city in the way of noise disturbances. Whether you live in the NYCHA houses or a private home, you can’t get heat or hot water, and you can’t get peace and quiet in your own home. These things are the law of the land. John Garon

Words of wisdom

Leesburg, Va.: A few beautiful quotes in honor of Black History Month. Zora Neale Hurston: “Each person is a combination of things priceless and worthless.” Sonny Rollins: “Certain people, when you see them, you know something is true. They are not pretending.” Bob Marley: “Me not of the world, y’know. Me live in the world but I’m not of the world.” Israel Vibration: “Cast away your evil spell, Jah will put some water in the well.” Bill Russell: “Hate is not the opposite of love. Indifference is the opposite of love.” John Coltrane: “I feel I want to be a force for good.”
