Doc grilled on research into nanny
A DEFENSE expert testifying on behalf of a nanny on trial for killing two kids in her care found herself on the defensive on Monday.
Psychiatrist Karen Rosenbaum defended her finding that Yoselyn Ortega was “psychotic” and “dissociative” when she killed Lulu Krim, 6, and Leo Krim, 2, in the bathroom of their W. 75th St. apartment on Oct. 25, 2012.
Rosenbaum was forced to admit she only interviewed Ortega and her relatives — and did not try to speak to anyone else who’d seen the 55-year-old s before the killings .
“I’m not an interrogator (or) detective,” the witness said. “I’m just a psychiatrist.”
She insisted there was no need to speak directly to those Ortega encountered at Lulu’s school, the family’s apartment building or at after-school programs, and said she relied on police reports for some information.
Ortega’s defense team has argued she could not legally form the intent to kill the little victims at the time of the slayings. Prosecutors say she was acting deliberately and have pointed to what they call Ortega’s methodical behavior the day of the crime.
Prosecutor Stuart Silberg suggested the defense expert’s report was biased and that Rosenbaum — who has earned $100,000 on the case so far — had not been interested in getting an objective mental health history on Ortega.
