FDNY men foil wheelchair rob

- BY LAURA DIMON With John Annese

TWO FDNY members in the Bronx jumped into action when they spotted a woman robbing and punching a man in a wheelchair — stopping the crime and restraining the cold-hearted robber until cops arrived, authorities said Monday.

Lt. Daniel Burgos (photo inset, left) and FDNY Paramedic Kevin Costello (right) of Station 19 were on 230th St. and Broadway in Kingsbridge at about 5:15 p.m. Saturday when they saw the woman attempt to snatch a bag hanging from a 62-year-old man’s wheelchair, cops said.

When the victim tried to hold on to his property, the woman punched him several times in the arm.

Burgos and Costello immediately intervened and restrained Shanna Turner, 25, until the police arrived.

Cops quickly figured out that Turner was the same woman who plucked a bag from a woman’s wheelchair 25 minutes earlier — on the same corner.

“Great work by FDNY Lt. Daniel Burgos and FDNY Paramedic Kevin Costello, Station 19, who stopped a robbery in progress in the Bronx on Saturday, then completed an assessment of the victim and assisted @NYPDNews with identifying the suspect,” the FDNY tweeted Monday.

Turner was arraigned Sunday on charges of attempted robbery, assault, attempted grand larceny, attempted petty larceny and harassment.

A judge ordered her released on her own recognizance.

Attempts to reach her were unsuccessful Monday.
