A BROOKLYN grandmother faces surgery after taking a stray bullet to the head during a street fight that escalated into gunfire, cops and family members said Saturday.

Louise Ferdinand, 62, (photo) remained upbeat at Kings County Hospital after the Friday shooting, when the bleeding woman was dragged to safety inside a nail salon by her daughter and nephew.

The woman, sporting a large bandage on her right cheek where the bullet exited, nodded in her hospital bed when asked if she was feeling OK.

Four members of the Ferdinand family were doing some window shopping along busy Flatbush Ave. when a dispute erupted nearby between two angry 19-year-olds.

One pulled a gun and started firing as bystanders scrambled for cover. Louise was struck in the back of the head before she had chance to get out of the way.

The victim’s daughter, Felicia Ferdinand, 35, said she heard the crackle of gunfire — and then saw her mom lying on the ground in a matter of seconds.

“I heard, ‘Pow! Pow!’” a weeping Felicia recounted Saturday. “It’s gunshots . . . I looked over at my mom and she was on the ground. I saw blood and said, ‘Mom, are you shot?’ ”

Felicia and her cousin, Collin Ferdinand, helped pull the wounded woman to safety inside a nearby nail salon as the gunfire continued on Flatbush Ave. near Tilden Ave.

“I heard two more shots,” said Felicia. “Our backs were turned. I didn’t know what was happening. We pulled her into the store.”

Felicia’s 3-year-old autistic son, riding in his stroller, was also steered away from the line of fire by his mom.

“When I heard the shots, I looked around and a guy was running toward us holding his chest — and then he fell to the ground,” recalled Collin, 37. “This is terrible.”

Family thought

members initially their matriarch was struck in the cheek, but doctors said the bullet actually entered through the back of her head before exiting through her face.

The prognosis for Louise Ferdinand’s recovery was optimistic, according to her daughter. Surgery was scheduled for Monday, and family members hoped to have Louise home by Thursday.

“The doctors said she’ll be OK, but we don’t know what the longer effects will be,” said Felicia.

Garrey Walker, 19, was arrested by cops at the scene of the 5:15 p.m. shooting. He faces attempted murder, attempted aggravated manslaughter and reckless endangerment charges.

One of his relatives screamed, “You are innocent until proven guilty,” after Walker’s arraignment in Brooklyn Criminal Court Saturday. He was held on $125,000 cash bail.

His target, also 19, was rushed to the same hospital with a gunshot wound to the chest and a graze wound to his cheek, cops said.

The pair were arguing when Walker pulled the gun and opened fire, police said.
