JACKIE ROBINSON DAY

-

against the Mets on Wednesday before he was pulled from the game by manager Don Mattingly after 77 pitches.

The Mets managed to get to the Marlins bullpen and come back to win the game, 4-1, but no such comeback was in the cards this time.

Jeffress and Hader combined for 2.2 scoreless innings in relief of Anderson, with Hader striking out five consecutive batters in the eighth and ninth innings to put an end to the Mets’ nine-game winning streak.

“He was pretty nasty,” said Callaway.

Despite the poor performance from the lineup, Bruce said the team feels confident they can still come back and does not believe this is a sign of things to come.

“We have a deep, professional lineup that takes quality at bats and there isn’t really an easy out I don’t think,” he said. “I definitely think we’ll continue to show that throughout the rest of the season.”

Major League Baseball will celebrate Jackie Robinson Day on Sunday and the Mets will have the trailblazing Hall of Famer’s family in attendance for Sunday’s game against the Brewers.

Robinson’s wife, Rachel, daughter, Sharon, and son, David will be representing the Jackie Robinson Foundation and will be joined by Mets great Mookie Wilson to guide a group of young men and women through the Jackie Robinson Rotunda at Citi Field and educate them on Jackie and his legacy.
