Donald made another mess
We the people of the United States have for 16 months now been forced to accept living with a federal government of Trump, by Trump and for Trump. The perversion of national purpose to the whims of one man’s ego has consequences. Tuesday, the President stood by Ronny Jackson, the doctor with zero management experience tapped to lead the second-largest federal agency.
Adm. Jackson’s qualifications to run the Department of Veterans Affairs are nil. But Trump liked the cut of his Navy jib, and the fact that he praised the President’s health on television.
And so, without an iota of vetting or staff consultation, Trump named a by-all-accounts-decent man to a top job he has no business doing.
Tuesday came word that the Senate, finally doing the job Trump staffers should have done, revealed problems beyond that obvious one. As chief White House physician, Jackson was reportedly repeatedly drunk on duty, and overprescribed sleep aids, and created an abusive environment for staff.
This is what we get when the apparatus of responsible executive governance willingly bends to the id of a man with boundless ego.
We also get a tweet asserting that North Korea’s Kim Jong Un has “agreed to denuclearization” — a huge, serious lie. Followed by a presidential claim that Kim, who starves and murders his people, is “very honorable.”
This is madness. This is Trump.
