YANK GAMEDAY

-

Even Jose Berrios was no match for the Yankees’ vaunted lineup in The Bronx.

Berrios, Minnesota’s ace, who came in with a 14-inning scoreless streak, was tagged for five runs in just four-plus frames, and the Bombers increased their wining streak to four with a sloppy 8-3 victory over the Twins on Tuesday night at the Stadium.

Didi Gregorius’ torrid start continued. He finished with three hits, a homer and three RBI — giving him eight homers and 27 RBI for the season.

Gary Sanchez added a pair of homers — Nos. 4 and 5 on the season. It was his ninth career multi-homer performance. Aaron Judge also went yard for his seventh homer of the year — the highlight of his own three-hit night. Gleyber Torres had two hits and his first career MLB RBI. CC Sabathia picked up his first W of the season after throwing six innings of one-run — and it was unearned — ball.

The Yankees did commit four errors after going four games without one.

Five if you count someone making an egregious mistake and spelling Gregorius’ last name wrong — “Gregious” — in a promo behind home plate for his bat day on May 12.

The culprits: Aaron Judge (bobbled ball in the corner), Neil Walker (booted grounder), Dellin Betances (errant pickoff throw) and Gleyber Torres (took his eye off Sanchez’s sailed throw and couldn’t catch it).

Aaron Hicks also misplayed a fly that turned into a double from Miguel Sano in the eighth.

Betances was booed off the mound after another ineffective performance in which David Robertson had to bail him out of a jam. Betances gave up a hit, walked two and recorded just one out. Perhaps another defensive day is needed. But it didn’t matter. The long ball-offense was more than enough.
