GOT IT COVERED

-

IF THE Giants cannot get rid of Ereck Flowers this year, he will definitely not be on the team next season.

In a move that was hardly a surprise, the Giants declined to pick up the fifth-year option for the left tackle on Wednesday, which will make him a free agent at the end of the 2018 season.

Flowers, 24, would have been guaranteed approximately $12 million had the Giants decided to pick up the option for next season.

The decision comes a day after Flowers hired agent Drew Rosenhaus after being represented by his family since the Giants took him ninth in the 2014 draft.

Flowers has failed to live up to expectations in his first three seasons and the Giants decided to go in a different direction by signing free agent Nate Solder in the offseason.

Flowers was told he would be moved to right tackle and compete for a spot but has decided to not participate in any voluntary offseason workout programs since the signing of Solder.

The Giants reportedly tried to trade Flowers, who is owed $4.5 million this season, last week during the draft.

The Giants picked up CB C.J. Goodwin off waivers after the Cardinals released him on Tuesday.

Goodwin, 27, played 28 games with just one start in three seasons. He has 12 career tackles and two passes defensed.

Goodwin is the sixth defensive back the Giants signed this offseason and joins a crowded, but open, competition in the Big Blue secondary to back up Janoris Jenkins and Eli Apple.
