De Blasio’s huge heroin mistake
Kew Gardens Hills: Mayor de Blasio wants to open safe injection sites for drug addicts. What mind-altering substance is our mayor taking? His plan is insane and illegal. Why not establish free-fire zones for street gangs and legal pickup spots for hookers? De Blasio needs delusion detox, because he gets high on his own huge ego. Richard Reif Bronx: It’s time for New Yorkers and our justice system to put this mayor in a safe spot where he can’t do more harm to this city, like jail.
Robert Neglia
Blood from a stone
Brooklyn: Mayor de Blasio and Gov. Cuomo are driving small property owners out of business. With annual rent increases at virtually zero for the past few years and now an assault on rent regulations, how are owners supposed to repair, maintain and improve our buildings for our tenants? We can’t spend what we don’t have. Our owners are long-term owners with a vested interest in this city and our tenants. When we sell, the buildings will be sold to speculators or other well-intentioned owners who will realize that they can’t make a go of it either. Long-term small property owners are the key to a healthy housing stock. We’d like to know: If the mayor and the governor know so much about housing, why is NYCHA in disrepair? Do we really want them tinkering with the private housing stock too? Be careful what you wish for.
Christopher Athineos, VP Small Property Owners of NY
The foundational problem
Middle Village: The Daily News has a unique opportunity to shine light on the homeless problem. Money is wildly misspent and energies are misdirected. Sherman Jackson’s story (“From playa to pauper,” May 6) is heartrending and all too common. For instance, for him to take anyone up on the offer of a night of peace, even for one night, he would completely forfeit his CAMBA bed and have to enter the system and start again from scratch when the generosity dried up. The system is bent on continuing the process in perpetuity rather than offering any permanent fix.

The rap on Kanye
Scarsdale, N.Y.: Kanye West is not very bright wearing that red racist Trump hat. And don’t try to run for President; you won’t even make the candidate list.
Claude Young
Race and realism
Island Park, L.I.: “Wide racial gap in school slaps” (April 25) says many more black students than white students get expelled or have their cases referred to law enforcement, and that some civil rights groups insist that federal protections are needed to address bias. Is this really bias? Maybe more black kids than white kids are causing trouble. I left a beautiful neighborhood in Brooklyn after which, over the years, blacks moved in. They weren’t poor if they could afford the homes, which also have rental incomes, and each time I go back to visit I am shocked at how the neighborhood has changed for the worse. Whose fault is that? I am not a racist, but I am ready for all your copout responses. Let’s stop with the political correctness; it helps no one. Rose Johnson
Of course, of course
South Ozone Park: It is amusing that, whenever the Kentucky Derby-winning jockey is questioned about his horse, he always gushes as if the animal has advanced degrees in physics, meteorology, psychology and other disciplines. Maybe the winning horse should always be inducted into the Mensa society.

Tale of the tape I
Brooklyn: To Voicer Robert Sieger: The 2009 Nobel Peace Prize was awarded to President Barack Obama for his “extraordinary efforts to strengthen international diplomacy and cooperation” between peoples. And in case your memory is failing, Osama Bin Laden was captured and killed under his watch. Donald Trump has created tension; he has not achieved anything anywhere near a Nobel Peace Prize. He did not start the talks in Korea; he is just taking credit for it. Susan Cassano
Tale of the tape II
Brookfield, Conn.: To Voicer Suzanne Hayes Kelly: Since you obviously don’t understand the difference between Trump’s affair and Clinton’s, let me explain it to you. Donald Trump had an affair when he was a private citizen, and it involved only three people: himself, his wife and the other woman. Bill Clinton had an affair while in office (the Oval Office, no less), thereby involving the whole country. Also, Clinton was not impeached because he had an affair, but because he lied about it before Congress (do you know what the definition of “is” is?). Now if you understand this, write back next week and I’ll explain the difference between legal and illegal immigration.

Truth or dare
Massapequa Park, L.I.: Please, Daily News, I dare you to force me to keep my subscription to your paper by printing one positive article about our President, Donald J. Trump. I dare you, I double dare you.
Raymond P. Moran Brooklyn: To Voicer Randall Berra: First, let me say that I am a Christian and I support President Trump. I believe that everyone has a right to make their own choices, even though I personally do not believe in abortion. When a woman has to make this difficult choice, I believe she is not thrilled about it. That being said, Michelle Wolf’s so-called comedy act was unsympathetic and not at all funny. John Sherman
Content of character
Montclair, N.J.: To reader Robin Grant, perplexing is not an adequate enough description of your disparagement of both Ben Carson and Clarence Thomas — two Americans who should be role models for not just young African-Americans, but all young Americans. One is a renowned neurosurgeon , the other one of nine jurists sitting on the Supreme Court — both coming from underprivileged backgrounds. Perhaps the reader needs to cut out the stereotypical race crap and consider the individual’s accomplishments. Neil P. Maxwell
Modern woman
Jamaica: While sitting here listening and seeing all this coverage of the Bill Cosby trial, we are being distracted. Our minds need to stay on Christ. But getting back to these sex attacks on women: First, I believe they knew what was happening and why. It takes two to tango. Why put yourself in that situation? And I believe a lot is hidden; these wives know all about what their husbands are doing. This happens from the pulpit to the White House. Men are men and they can be tempted. As long as they bring home the money, who cares? Edna Crater
Save the Palestinians
Los Altos, Calif.: Israel is in a state of extreme moral decay buoyed by President Trump’s decision to move the U.S. Embassy to Jerusalem. Even the term “occupied territories” is being replaced by “Greater Israel” in official Israeli circles, which demonstrates the tragic reality for the beleaguered Palestinians. With a “friend” in the White House, Israel has thrown all caution and humanity to the winds and has intensified SUSAN WATTS/DAILY NEWS its appalling treatment of the Palestinians, slaughtering dozens and injuring scores more at the border crossing with Gaza. Many have been blinded and others have limbs amputated with Israel’s claim that “every bullet has met its intended target.” Mike Pompeo has given the green light to Israel to continue its murderous assault, stating that the United States is “fully supportive” of Israelis’ “right to defend themselves.” Oh, really? Don’t the Palestinians have the right to life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness, or must they live in a state of permanent subjugation?

Ionic reaction
Manhattan: Has television gotten so automated that no one is monitoring what’s going on the air? All day long Sunday, the audio on ION Television was out of sync. No one caught on to this for untold hours? TV obviously cannot run itself with no input from humans. This was very unpleasant. Sherrel Cox
Programming note
East Meadow, L.I.: Once in a while I watch the game show channel. They show many of the old quiz shows. However, they don’t show the greatest of all time, which is “Jeopardy!” How about taking off about 10 episodes of that stupid “Family Feud” and put on shows that are sensible: “Wheel of Fortune,” “Jeopardy!” and “Card Sharks” would make for a very pleasant evening.
