DeGrom hyped up for start
PHILADELPHIA — Jacob deGrom is ready to get this over with. The Mets righthander said he felt good in his bullpen on Friday and is ready to come off the disabled list and make the start on Sunday. “I just want to get back out there,” deGrom said Saturday. “I am ready to go.”
DeGrom was placed on the disabled list with a hyperextended right elbow Sunday. He had left his last start early with discomfort in his right biceps and elbow after injuring himself on a swing.
Mickey Callaway said there would be no restrictions or pitch count on deGrom Sunday, but he is thinking of limiting him and the rest of his pitchers at the plate.
“We're still trying to figure out what we want to do at the plate with him. No pitch count or restrictions,” Callaway said.
“We do have these braces that our pitchers are going to start wearing, that kind of keeps their arms from locking out,” Callaway said.
Degrom said he has been given the brace, but he is not sure if he will wear it on Sunday. He has not been allowed to swing a bat since that May 2 start when he hurt himself.
GOOD LUCK
Matt Harvey made his debut with the Reds Friday night by throwing four scoreless innings. After a tumultuous tenure that ended with Callaway demoting him to the bullpen and the Mets designating him for assignment before trading him to Cincinnati, Callaway said it was good to see the one-time Mets ace do well.
“Yeah, I saw that. It was really good,” Callaway said. “I sent him a text that said ‘Way to go.’ I am pulling for him.”
Mets captain David Wright and his wife Molly welcomed their second child on Friday. Their daughter, Madison, was born at 3:15 p.m.
She is a few hours younger than Jay Bruce’s son. He and wife Hannah welcomed their second child at 1:21 p.m. on Friday. He was named Maxwell (Max).
Bruce was in Texas for the birth. He is on paternity leave this weekend and will rejoin the team on Tuesday in New York.
