YANK GAMEDAY

- By MIKE MAZZEO

KANSAS CITY — Note to lefty starters: beware of these Bombers. The Yankees slayed another southpaw on Sunday, tagging Eric Skoglund for six runs in their 10-1 rubber-game victory over the Royals at Kauffman Stadium. They have won 21 of their last 25.

Sonny Gray was brilliant, taking a perfect-game bid into the fifth inning. It ended when Hunter Dozier blooped a single to center with two outs in the frame.

Gray ultimately allowed one run on four hits in a season-high eight innings, losing his shutout bid with two outs in the eighth on John Jay’s RBI single to center. He walked one and struck out five. Gray’s previous season high for innings was six (three times).

Right-handed masher Tyler Austin blasted a pair of two-run homers — Nos. 7 and 8 on the year — with distances of 440 feet and 405 feet, respectfully. With Greg Bird potentially returning from right ankle surgery at some point this week, Austin is giving GM Brian Cashman something to think about.

Miguel Andujar also rocked a solo homer — his fourth — that went 402 feet. Andujar had three hits including a triple. Austin Romine had a three-hit, one-homer day as well. His homer went 440 feet.

The Yankees are 12-3 versus lefties this season. They hit nine homers in the final two games of this three-game series.

Gary Sanchez, Didi Gregorius and Clint Frazier all got the day off.
