THE ONLY KIM HE COULD GET
Give him the Nobel Peace Prize now: Trump holds historic summit with Kardashian
PRESIDENT TRUMP has all the time in the world to host a summit with fellow reality TV star Kim Kardashian.
After the White House said Trump was too busy focusing on his upcoming rendezvous with North Korea’s Kim Jong Un to weigh in on the Roseanne Barr mess, he carved out a chunk of his Wednesday afternoon to discuss prison reform with Kardashian.
“Great meeting with @KimKardashian today, talked about prison reform and sentencing,” Trump tweeted, with a photo of the two posing in the Oval Office.
The “Keeping Up With the Kardashians” star strutted into the White House alongside lawyer Shawn Chapman Holley to discuss the case of lifer Alice Marie Johnson.
“I would like to thank President Trump for his time this afternoon,” Kardashian tweeted later. “It is our hope that the President will grant clemency to Ms. Alice Marie Johnson who is serving a life sentence for a first-time, nonviolent drug offense.”
Surprisingly not present for the Kim summit was her husband, hip-hop superstar Kanye West, who praised Trump’s “dragon energy” on Twitter last month. He also tweeted out a picture of a Trump-autographed “Make America Great Again” cap — leading the President to tweet back at him and praise him at a rally.
And the Kardashian meetup followed Trump sounding off on Barr’s racist tirade on Twitter, which White House press secretary Sarah Huckabee Sanders initially said Trump had not had time to read about or address because he’s so busy.
“We have a lot bigger things going on in the country right now, certainly, that the President is spending his time on,” Sanders said Tuesday.
Rather than condemning the outspoken actress’ comments, Trump managed to make them about him.
He complained that ABC
executives had reached out to Valerie Jarrett, the target of Barr’s racist tweet to apologize.
“Bob Iger of ABC called Valerie Jarrett to let her know that ‘ABC does not tolerate comments like those’ made by Roseanne Barr,” he tweeted. “Gee, he never called President Donald J. Trump to apologize for the HORRIBLE statements made and said about me on ABC. Maybe I just didn’t get the call?”
Barr’s rebooted hit show “Roseanne” was canned by ABC Tuesday after the actress posted a racist tweet referring to Jarrett, an adviser to former President Barack Obama, as a cross between the Muslim Brotherhood and the “Planet of the Apes.”
Jarrett revealed on Tuesday that Iger, the CEO of Walt Disney, which owns ABC, contacted her prior to the cancellation of Barr’s show to denounce the star’s tweet.
Trump earlier this year applauded the success of the “Roseanne” relaunch as Barr’s titular character came out as a supporter of his presidency.
“Look at her ratings,” Trump said at a rally in Cleveland in March. “They were unbelievable. . . . and it was about us.”
He went as far as to call Barr to congratulate her on her sitcom success.
Echoing the White House line that he’s too busy for trivial matters, Trump complained on Twitter Tuesday that the Russia investigation is a distraction and he must “start focusing my energy on North Korea Nuclear, bad Trade Deals, VA Choice, the Economy, rebuilding the Military, and so much more.”
The White House defended Trump’s tweet about the comedian.
“The President’s simply calling out the media bias,” Sanders said. “No one is defending what she said. The President is the President of all Americans and he’s focused on doing what is best for our country.”
Sanders faulted Iger for not apologizing to Trump for a host of slights from celebrities.
“The President is pointing to the hypocrisy in the media saying the most horrible things about the President and nobody addresses it,” she said.
“Where was Bob Iger’s apology to the White House staff for Jemele Hill calling the President and anyone associated with him a ‘white supremacist?’ ” Sanders asked.
Hill was suspended by ESPN, which is also owned by Disney.
Sanders also said it is “hypocritical” that Iger took action against Barr, while rehiring former MSNBC commentator Keith Olbermann to ESPN.
The former “SportsCenter” host has called Trump a “Nazi.”
“Where was the apology for Kathy Griffin going on a profane rant against the President on ‘The View’ after a photo showed her holding President Trump’s decapitated head?” Sanders continued.
“This is a double standard.”
