Why Samantha Bee’s an atrocity
Rutherford, N.J.: Once again the media gets caught up on a word (“Oh say can you C-word?” June 1). Remember when Jack Ruby shot Oswald and used the word “bastard”? Couldn’t print the word or say it on television (probably still wouldn’t; but the shooting was and has been shown thousands of times). Now this is different, but once again we are focusing on a word and missing the true horrible slur. Every media account plays the part where Samantha Bee uses the c--t word but omits the next remark. “Put on something tight and low cut and go talk to your father.” I can’t believe she said that. She actually accused Ivanka of incest. I know what Donald Trump said about his daughter being “hot,” but to use that to disparage Ivanka is way over the top.
How terrible and unforgivable is that?
Don't worry, Bee happy
Little Egg Harbor, N.J.: I just don’t get it, or maybe I unfortunately do. Roseanne’s show is being canned, but Samantha Bee’s is not! Bee’s vulgar remark about our President’s daughter is not surprising to me, but it is inexcusable. Her show to me is not funny and is in poor taste anyway. I would not waste my precious time watching it. If anything even remotely similar was said about Barack Obama’s daughter, there would have been a public outrage and her show would immediately have been canceled. Liberals win again.

Samantha Bee good
Jamaica: What Samantha Bee said wasn’t racist. What she said was only the truth. Ivanka Trump took a picture with her son and tweeted it. She had a lot of nerve, since her father and Jeff Sessions are taking children from immigrants right out of their arms. Those immigrants that are only trying to have a better life for their children. Ivanka Trump is like her father — no empathy. The Trump administration is not only taking them away, but losing them. Yes, they always want to blame President Obama, but he had let the children stay with their parents — unless they wanted them placed with a family until they could be cleared to enter the United States. Samantha Bee, thank you for telling Ivanka the truth, even though you used a so-called bad word with a C. Charlene Black
Never appropriate
Whitestone: This is in response to Christine Estima’s opinion column regarding the ever so vulgar Samantha Bee (“Tool of satire vs. big jerks,” June 1). Would it have been locker room talk if this had been directed at the former first family? Give me a break! This has nothing to do with liberals or conservatives; it’s just wrong to spew such disgusting language — much like the contents of your article!

No, not ever
Bloomfield, N.J.: Very appalling front page about the attack on Ivanka Trump. It also assumes that men can use this word, but that it’s worse when women do. It’s disgusting that anyone would use it. Doesn't matter if Eileen Sutton is “sorry: about using it in the past (“Even for me, it’s too crude,” Op-Ed, June 1). Damage done! No woman should ever have to hear it spoken to her. It’s never okay. Nancy Freedman
Seriously, never
Forest Hills: Your front page Friday asks if it’s ever OK for a woman to use the “C” word. It is not OK for anyone, woman or man, to use that disgusting slur.

All in the name
Francis J. Viola North Plainfield, N.J.: So Michael Thorpy says that Ambien shouldn’t be blamed for Roseanne Barr's tweet. Fair enough. But what about Bill Maher's show where he compared President Trump to an orangutan? He said the American people have the right to know if Donald Trump’s mother made nightly trips to an orangutan cage back in 1945. Anyone against our President apparently has a free pass to bash him. Bill Mayer still has his show. It’s all double-standard BS.

The many Obama scandals
Allentown, Pa.: Kudos to Voicer Manny Martin for presenting the factual Obama record. Here are additional facts to support Martin: Operation Fast & Furious; the Solyndra scandal; the Veterans’ Affairs scandal; the Clinton private email scandal; IRS targeting of conservative groups; the 2012 Benghazi attack; Uranium One; NSA spying on Americans; the auto industry bailout, which was done by sacrificing stakeholders’ interests and placing unions’ interests in the primary position. Enough said. Joseph Marrongelle
Confirmation over accusation
New Rochelle, N.Y.: In a perfect world, there would strictly be truth. Unfortunately we live in an imperfect world, where falsehoods and lies spread. We see this with some of the major news outlets that publish stories without investigating for the truth. We also see this in claims of sexual harassment that later prove fabricated. So when there are four women who come out to accuse Eric Schneiderman of sexual harassment, they should be thoroughly questioned in order to determine the truth. We cannot just assume these claims are truths given by God; there has to be some sort of investigative sequence in order to substantiate acts of sexual harassment accurately. Of course any act of sexual harassment is vile and disgusting, and should be met with legal action, but this theme of accusations without any substantial evidence to back them has got to stop for the sake of the lives of those being accused and the rest of the community. UnparDONable President
Bronx: The News was spot on and I applaud you (“Trump vs. the law,” editorial, June 1). Unfortunately, 45 had already shown his contempt for the law by pardoning one of the most racist hatemongers ever documented – Sheriff Joe Arpaio – so his upcoming pardons are sadly not surprising but still sickening. We have an extremely ignorant, self-absorbed person in the White House who is now drunk and heady with power. God help this country. Thanks for printing the truth, even if many of your readers choose to believe made up “alternative facts” from the world according to Trump.

No joint for joints
Bronx: Kudos to Assembly Speaker Carl Heastie for the suggestion of expunging the criminal records of those already convicted of smoking pot should recreational marijuana be legalize. I personally don't have a criminal record as I never smoked anything, but those who do have a record for smoking pot should be given a second chance. Virgilio Carballo
Praising LaGuardia progress
Sea Cliff, L.I.: I haven’t seen any mention of the fabulous reconstruction happening at LaGuardia Airport. My wife receives her daily update on this spectacular government-funded construction during my morning commute. My greatest respect and pride goes to all the management, tradesmen/women and laborers who have taken this complex assembly to task. Aside from the immediate jobs, the airport’s obvious beauty is beginning to unfold. Somehow, they manage to keep the cars moving in and out each day during the process. New York will be a better and far more respected city to commute into and out from. Remember, even VP Joe Biden called the existing LaGuardia third world. Maybe those words are what it took for the federal and state dollars to come together. Doesn't matter. My thanks to everyone involved! Your efforts are noticed. Bill Janssen
Bad example
Holliswood: So, an off-duty firefighter feels disrespected for being pulled over for riding his motorcycle on the shoulder of the highway — not to beat the traffic, right, right, but because he was concerned for his son’s safety, as it was the child's first motorcycle ride. How about staying off the highway to begin with if you are so concerned for the child's safety? Also, as a motorcycle rider, the firefighter should know the shoulder of the road is not a safe place to ride due to all the dirt, gravel and road debris). And on top of that, his motorcycle had not been inspected. Shocking. So the officer calls him on it, saying “don't play dumb” and the off-duty firefighter takes umbrage to this and makes a frivolous civilian complaint against the officer, who was doing his job. By doing so, the off duty firefighter teaches his son the lesson that even if you break the law, you can still try to get over. Father of the year material. As I like to say, “You can't stop stupid, you can only hope to contain it.” AP Gregory W. Chupa
