Boston’s Betts goes on 10-day DL
HOUSTON — The Boston Red Sox have put major league batting leader Mookie Betts on the 10-day disabled list because of a left abdominal strain.
The Red Sox made the move retroactive to Tuesday.
The AL East leaders will make a corresponding roster move before Saturday’s game at Houston. The Red Sox fell to the Astros, 7-3, Friday.
They also released Hanley Ramirez, a week after designating him for assignment.
KERSHAW BACK TO DL: Los Angeles Dodgers ace Clayton Kershaw has returned to the disabled list, this time with a strained lower back.
The three-time NL Cy Young Award winner experienced tightness during his five-inning outing against Philadelphia on Thursday. The Dodgers made the move Friday before their game at Colorado.
The 30-year-old left-hander has spent time on the DL in each of the past two seasons with a back injury.
ATHLETICS 16, ROYALS 0: Matt Olson hit two homers and drove in a career-high five runs, while Frankie Montas pitched a career-best eight innings to help Oakland rout host Kansas City.
BRAVES 4, NATIONALS 0: Mike Foltynewicz pitched a two-hitter for his first career complete game and Dansby Swanson broke the game open with a three-run homer in the seventh for the host Braves.
Foltynewicz (5-3) retired 20 straight batters before issuing a leadoff walk in the eighth to outpitch Stephen Strasburg (6-5), who left the game with cramps in his left wrist after 6 2/3 innings.
TIGERS 5, BLUE JAYS 2: Nicholas Castellanos homered and had three hits, and Miguel Cabrera got a hit in his return from the disabled list for host Detroit.
TWINS 7, INDIANS 4: Eduardo Escobar hit two homers and drove in four runs, and Jose Berrios pitched six effective innings to help Minnesota pull away from Cleveland in Minneapolis.
PIRATES 4, CARDINALS 0: Jameson Taillon pitched three-hit ball over eight innings to help the visiting Pirates get their second win in their past seven games.
Taillon (3-4) hadn’t won since April 8, when he one-hit the Cincinnati Reds in a 5-0 win. He struck out six and walked one against St. Louis to slim his ERA to 3.97.
