Nadal KOs del Potro, reaches French final

Rafael Nadal will play for an 11th French Open title after he cruised to a 6-4, 6-1, 6-2 victory over Argentina’s Juan Martin del Potro in the semifinals at Roland Garros in Paris Friday.

The 10-time champion was in full control as Del Potro wilted under the relentless pressure of his whipping trademark forehand.

Nadal will meet Dominic Thiem in Sunday’s final. Thiem earned a place in his first grandslam final with a 7-5, 7-6 (12-10), 6-1 victory over Italy’s Marco Cecchinato. ace’s first pitch of the game, and Houston went on to beat Texas on the road, 7-3.

l Jason Kipnis hit a tiebreakin­g, three-run HR in the ninth and Cleveland beat host Detroit, 4-1.

l Nationals pitcher Stephen Strasberg exited after two innings because of an apparent injury, and San Francisco rapped eight extra-base hits and beat host Washington, 9-5 The Nationals didn’t immediatel­y announce what happened to Strasburg (6-6). He gave up three runs and five hits.

l Ryan Braun homered twice and drove in five runs, and visiting Milwaukee busted out of an offensive funk to beat Philadelph­ia, 12-4.

l Kris Bryant had three hits and scored a run while batting leadoff for the first time in his career and the surging Chicago Cubs beat the slumping Pittsburgh Pirates, 3-1, at Wrigley Field.

l Padres pitcher Jose Torres, arrested in December on charges that stemmed from a domestic violence incident involving his wife, was suspended by Major League Baseball for the rest of the season.
