All aboard gun sanity
GOV. CUOMO on Monday kicked off his push for passage of a “red flag” bill to make it easier to take guns away from people feared to be dangerous by warning of political retribution if the legislation doesn’t pass before the state legislative session ends next week.
Cuomo, gun control advocates and other elected officials traveled by school bus to a high school in Plainview, L.I., and to the Evander Childs campus in the Bronx, where he railed about “cowardice” and “apathy” in Washington. He called on Albany to step up and act before the session ends on June 20.
“Either the politicians change their positions and they vote in Albany and they pass this red flag bill, or this student movement, this populace movement, will change the politicians on Election Day,” Cuomo said in the Bronx. “It’s that simple.”
Under the bill, teachers, school officials, family members and police officers would have the ability to petition judges if they believe someone is dangerous and has access to guns. Cuomo plans similar rallies across the state in the next two weeks.
