No-contest plea for Jets’ Anderson

- — Kirk Meyer

Jets WR Robby Anderson is in the clear after settling the last of his well-documented legal woes, pleading no contest to a misdemeanor reckless driving charge.

That was the final charge remaining against Anderson stemming from a wild offseason. He will have to serve six months probation as part of the deal, according to reports.

Anderson was arrested in January in Florida and was accused of threatening to sexually assault a police officer's wife. Felony charges for those threats were dropped in April, and now Anderson is free of the second charge for reckless driving. It remains to be seen if he is suspended by the NFL under the league's personal conduct policy.

Anderson has had an eventful offseason. In May, Anderson had an arrest warrant issued, and then lifted, because a clerical error made it seem like he did not show in court for an arraignment for the reckless driving charge. At the time, Anderson's lawyer

Ed O'Donnell said he did not expect the reckless driving case to go to court.

Last year, Anderson, 25, was a breakout star for the Jets. He was their most productive receiver, finishing with 63 catches, 941 yards, and seven touchdowns.

Last week at mini-camp, Anderson said he does not expect to be suspended for the incident. — Evan Grossman

CFL TEAM EYES HACK

The Edmonton Eskimos of the Canadian Football League added former Jets QB

Christian Hackenberg to their “negotiating list” according to CFL news site 3downnation.com. In the CFL, the negotiating list allows a team to essentially call “dibs” on a player and reserves them exclusive negotiating rights should the player want to play in the CFL.
