ST. PETERSBURG, Fla. — Murderers’ Row 2.0 was again no match for Wilmer Font.

Font, a “bullpen day” reliever for the Rays, shut down the Yankees over 52⁄3 scoreless innings, leading Tampa Bay to a 4-0 victory over the Bombers on at Tropicana Field. The Rays have experimented with deploying their relievers as starters throughout the season.

Font, who was acquired from the A’s in late May, allowed just one run in his previous start against the Bombers.

The Yankees, losers of two straight, haven’t lost three games in a row all season. They’ve scored just one run in their last 25 innings. This will be their first series loss since dropping two of three in Texas on May 21-23. They made some solid contact — just right at people. They had their best chance to make something happen in the sixth, but Giancarlo Stanton struck out against Ryne Stanek’s 98-mph fastball with runners on the corners to end the inning. Brett Gardner threw his bat and his helmet after striking out to end the eighth.

Sonny Gray struggled early but retired 15 in a row at one point.
