Queens pol Van Bramer backing Nix
City Councilman Jimmy Van Bramer will endorse Cynthia Nixon in her Democratic primary run against Gov. Cuomo, he told the Daily News.
“I’ve been really proud of the race that she’s been running,” he said.
Van Bramer said he’s been friends with Nixon’s wife, Christine Marinoni, for years, and got to know Nixon through her advocacy for arts programs in his role as chairman of the Council Committee on Cultural Affairs. He’s also been a longtime admirer of her and Marinoni’s work on education, he said. They first discussed the endorsement, “ironically enough,” at the state Democratic convention, where Cuomo won the day. He will endorse her Thursday beneath a stop on the 7 Train in Sunnyside.
“I chose the location because she’s been talking a lot about the MTA,” he said, adding he admired her for going toe-to-toe with the state on the issue.
He also cited her progressive stances on Immigration and Customs Enforcement and LGBT issues.
