Cop gets jail time for lying about gun arrest
A city cop was thrown in jail for two months after copping Wednesday to perjury and official misconduct for lying about a gun bust in Washington Heights.
NYPD Officer Sasha Cordoba, 35, falsely claimed she saw a 38year-old suspect threaten another man with a gun and that she and her partner had seen it in his waistband on Nov. 6, 2014.
In reality, she admitted, they got a tip from an informant that Jamal Choice had a firearm inside a nearby apartment -- and they entered without a warrant to seize it.
Cordoba lied to prosecutors, in official documents and before a grand jury, she admitted in Manhattan Supreme Court in front of Justice Melissa Jackson on Wednesday.
Jackson sentenced her to 60 days behind bars in exchange for her guilty plea. Cordoba was immediately taken into custody and hauled off to jail.
Felony convictions are automatic grounds for dismissal from the police force.
Charges against Choice were dismissed after prosecutors learned the discovery and confiscation of the weapon was dirty.
Cordoba's partner, Kevin Desormeau, 34, pleaded guilty April in connection to the case. He got three years probation for official misconduct and is off the force.
