YANKS GAME DAY

-

PHILADELPHIA — Ef that guy.

Zach Eflin shut down the Yankees, Luis Cessa was awful in another spot start and the Bombers couldn’t complete a sweep of the Phillies, haplessly losing 3-0 on Wednesday night at Citizens Bank Park. The Yankees, who had their two-game winning streak snapped heading into a critical three-game series against the Red Sox, mustered just four hits. Aaron Hicks had two of them.

Cessa, inserted into the rotation so the Bombers could give CC Sabathia extra rest and line him up to start against Boston on Friday, allowed three runs on five hits in three innings. Last season, he went 0-3 with a 5.82 ERA in five starts.

Aaron Judge, Greg Bird and Austin Romine were all out of the lineup, essentially giving them two rest days before the big series begins.

The struggling Bird, who’d just ended an 0-for-15 stretch with an RBI single on Tuesday, struck out as a pinch-hitter leading off the eighth.

Domingo German pitched a scoreless eighth inning in relief.
