YANK GAMEDAY

- BY JOHN HEALY

The first game between the American League and National League teams with the best records did not disappoint, and it was the Atlanta Braves who came out on top in round one.

Ronald Acuna Jr. hit a two-run home run off David Robertson in the 11th inning as the Braves beat the Yankees on a hot, muggy night in the Bronx, 5-3, in the first of a threegame series.

Nick Markakis led off the 11th inning by reaching base on an error by Gleyber Torres and two batters later, Acuna blasted a 1-2 curveball from Robertson just over the glove of a leaping Aaron Judge.

The Yanks had chances to take the lead, with their best shot coming in the 10th inning, after Aaron Hicks’ hit to right bounced into the stands, keeping Didi Gregorius on third.

With runners on second and third and one out, the Braves intentionally walked Miguel Andujar for lefty reliever Jesse Biddle to face Greg Bird with the bases loaded. Biddle got Bird to go down swinging at an 0-2 fastball, then struck out Austin Romine to end the threat.
