B’klyn chef shot dead in drive-by
A chef was shot to death steps from his Brooklyn home early Tuesday, police said.
Argenis Cabrera, 33, was murdered in a drive-by on Union St. near Troy Ave. in Crown Heights at 2:45 a.m., cops said.
Cabrera collapsed to the sidewalk while the men who shot him drove off east on Union St. in a white Honda Odyssey minivan.
They crashed about half a block away near Schenectady Ave., jumped out of the vehicle and ran three blocks into the subway station at Eastern Parkway.
Cabrera was rushed to Kings County Hospital, where he died.
William Hobbs, 16, who lives two doors down from the scene of the crime, woke up to the gunshots. “I thought it was firecrackers, but obviously not,” he said.
The gunmen are being sought by police. One was dressed in all black, and the other wore a gray hoodie, a white T-shirt and black shorts.
Cabrera worked as a chef in Long Island City, according to people in his community.
“He was a good dude,” one neighbor said. “He was an awesome chef. He was the man. My mom watched him grow up. He threw barbecues in his neighborhood for the kids.”
