Man dies in fiery Long Island one-car crash

A fiery car crash claimed the life of a man on Long Island early Wednesday, police said.

The flaming wreck was on Express Drive North near Edgewood Ave. in Ronkonkoma at 3:20 a.m, cops said.

The man’s Jeep jumped a sidewalk and hit rocks outside a home, then hit a fire hydrant before coming to a stop on the house’s front yard and catching fire, Suffolk County police said.

The Lakeland Fire Department raced to scene and put out the blaze.

The motorist died at the scene, and was not immediatel­y identified.

A woman who lives in the home ran outside and was hit by flying debris, authoritie­s said. She suffered minor injuries that were treated at Suffolk County Medical Center.

This was the second fatal crash in Suffolk County on Independen­ce Day morning.

Motorcycli­st John Greene drove his 1995 Harley Davidson into a metal barricade on Veterans Memorial Highway in Holbrook at 12:20 a.m., police said. Greene, 49, died at the scene.
