METSGAMEDAY
BY KRISTIE ACKERT
TORONTO — The grind hasn’t gotten Todd Frazier down yet. The mastermind of the Mets’ salt-and-pepper grinder celebrations back in the heady start of the season, the third baseman has not let a hamstring injury, struggles at the plate and the Mets’ seemingly constant losing bother him.
Wednesday night, the struggling native of New Jersey had a rare game to enjoy. He homered in the Mets’ five-run fifth inning as they beat the Blue Jays, 6-3, at the Rogers Centre.
It was the seventh win in the last 30 games for the Mets (34-49), who have gone 17-39 since May 1, so there hasn’t been a whole lot to celebrate these days.
Frazier, however, has kept trying to get the Mets going. Just Sunday night, he helped organize a team dinner after a win over the Marlins as a way to kick start a stagnant season. And perhaps to give himself a jolt as well. After missing 30 games with a hamstring strain, Frazier has struggled to find his rhythm. He went into Wednesday’s game hitting .184 with 27 strikeouts since he returned on June 2.
Wednesday night, however, was a break from the losing and a break for Frazier, who went 2-for-4 with 2 RBI.
In the fifth, Wilmer Flores singled and scored on Frazier’s homer. Kevin Plawecki doubled and Brandon Nimmo walked before Jose Bautista drove in the catcher with a single. Nimmo scored on Asdrubal Cabrera’s single and Michael Conforto drove in Bautista.
