METS GAMEDAY

- BY PETER BOTTE

The Mets haven’t won often lately, but when they have, at least it’s been in dramatic fashion.

The Mets posted their second walk-off win in four days – albeit sandwiching back-to-back shutout defeats – when Wilmer Flores did it again with a pinch-hit homer in the 10th inning to lift them to a 4-3 victory over the Phillies on Monday in the opener of a doubleheader at Citi Field, the makeup of a snowed-out game from April 2.

Flores, who went deep off of the left-field foul pole against Phillies reliever Victor Arano, now has 10 career walk-off RBI, the most in Mets history, including four this season. Jose Bautista had won Friday’s game against Tampa Bay with a ninth-inning grand slam.

Zack Wheeler had enhanced his trade value with a 2.73 ERA over his previous four starts, but the righty was removed from a 3-3 game after reaching 100 pitches with two outs in the fifth inning.

After getting blanked in consecutive shutout losses over the weekend to Tampa Bay, the Mets reached Phils righty Zach Eflin for three runs in his five innings, including a home run and an RBI-double from Asdrubal Cabrera. Maikel Franco’s solo blast to left against Wheeler forged a 3-3 tie in the fourth.

PLAY OF THE GAME

Nimmo zipped around the bases and scored from first when Phils center fielder Odubel Herrera overran Bautista’s single in the third inning.

TURNING POINT

Flores thought he’d been hit by a pitch on the right forearm from Arano one pitch ahead of his home run, and the Mets challenged the no-call, which was upheld.

STAR OF THE GAME

Cabrera homered and doubled to drive in two of the Mets’ two runs, giving him 51 RBI for the season.
