Tish tallies 5 key nods in AG race
Public Advocate Letitia James on Sunday continued to cement her place as the establishment Democratic candidate in the race for state attorney general.
Controller Scott Stringer and four other elected officials endorsed James at a press conference at Verdi Square on the Upper West Side.
“It takes a special skill set … somebody who understands that you have to think about the big picture to try to make change,” Stringer said.
James was also endorsed by Assembly members Richard Gottfried and Linda Rosenthal and City Council members Mark Levine and Helen Rosenthal.
“As New York City public advocate, she has worked like a ‘city attorney general,' including going to court to fight for us,” Gottfried said. “She'll fight to enact single-payer health coverage and to make sure (President) Trump doesn't block it.”
Also in the Sept. 13 primary race are former gubernatorial candidate Zephyr Teachout, U.S. Rep. Sean Patrick Maloney, and Leecia Eve, a former aide to Gov. Cuomo and former Sen. Hillary Clinton.
All four are vying to replace Eric Schneiderman, who stepped down on May 8 after allegations of sexual assault.
A Quinnipiac poll released July 18 says 42% of voters are undecided. James is favored by 26%, Maloney is next at 15%, Teachout has 12%, and Eve has 3%, the poll shows.
