3RD ‘ORGY’ SUPE
New Bx. suspension in NYCHA sex parties
The city Housing Authority has suspended another top supervisor in its ongoing investigation of on-the-clock sex parties at a Bronx development — with more possible suspensions on the way, the Daily News has learned.
NYCHA on Tuesday suspended resident building superintendent Wallace Vereen for 30 days without pay as it investigates allegations he was involved in the orgies on overtime at the Throggs Neck Houses, according to NYCHA officials.
Last week, the authority suspended two other staffers for 30 days without pay: Brianne Pawson, supervisor of grounds at Throggs Neck, and Tayron Hazel, a caretaker there. As the probe unfolds, more staffers could face the same fate, says a source familiar with the matter.
The city Department of Investigation is also looking at allegations the workers and supervisors put in for overtime during the frequent boozed-up parties inside the groundskeeper shop on development property. The sexual activity involved both supervisors and their subordinates, sources said.
Vereen appears to have racked up substantial overtime during his time as Throggs Neck’s superintendent in three of the past four years — making $136,412 on top of his $78,916 base pay in 2014, $103,766 over his $84,621 base pay in 2016, and $104,111 over his $87,160 base pay last year. In 2015 he took home $82,704, only slightly above his base pay of $82,557.
NYCHA spokeswoman Jasmine Blake declined to discuss Vereen’s pattern of excessive OT, stating she’s “not going to go into detail on these things during an ongoing investigation.”
Early last month, the Investigation Department received two separate tips about the alleged sex parties but referred the matter to NYCHA officials. Last week, DOI opened its own investigation after the Daily News revealed the existence of the allegations.
