McQuaid in Blue

Rangers send Kampfer to Bruins

-

The Rangers acquired defenseman Adam McQuaid on Tuesday in a deal with Boston that sent Steven Kampfer to the Bruins.

The Blueshirts are also giving up a fourth-round pick in the 2019 NHL Entry Draft and a conditional seventh-round pick.

McQuaid, 31, has played his entire NHL career with the Bruins (462 games). Over parts of nine seasons the rugged defenseman has a plus-60 rating along with 652 penalty minutes. The 6-4, 212-pounder has registered at least 100 hits in five of his nine NHL campaigns.

A member of Boston’s 2010-2011 Stanley Cup-winning squad, McQuaid is also fearless on the back line, having recorded at least 100 blocked shots four times during his career. Two seasons ago, he established career bests in hits (157) and blocked shots (144).

He also brings valuable playoff experience having skated in 68 career Stanley Cup playoff games.

McQuaid, who has one year left on his contract at $2.75 million, suffered a broken right fibula last October and missed nearly three months of action. He played only 38 games last season.
