It’s official, Wright’s set to step in

David Wright did not get in the game Tuesday night, and his team was not inspired by the captain’s presence in the dugout.

After activating their captain from the 60-day disabled list, the Mets coughed up an early lead and fell to the NL East champion Braves, 7-3, at Citi Field.

Pitching through periods of pouring rain, Noah Syndergaard delivered a strong outing, going six innings, allowing just three hits and no runs while striking out five. But the long-haired righthander got the Jacob deGrom treatment on Tuesday.

The Mets had a three-run lead in the sixth after Jay Bruce and Michael Conforto knocked in runs in the third inning and Tomas Nido hit a sacrifice fly in the sixth, but things unraveled from there.

Robert Gsellman was able to record only one out in the seventh and was charged with four runs. Jerry Blevins gave up a two-run homer to Braves young stud Ozzie Albies in the eighth.

Wright has been sidelined since May 2016 by back, neck and shoulder injuries that required surgery.

Though there’s a chance he’ll get in a game before the weekend — Mickey Callaway has said he’d like to give Wright a couple of pinch-hit opportunities ahead of his farewell game Saturday, when the seven-time All-Star is scheduled to start at third base against Miami in what he expects to be his final bigleague appearance — it didn’t happen Tuesday.

“I’m not sure,” Wright said of getting a pinch-hit opportunity this week. “I’m hoping to get in there once or maybe twice before Saturday, but again that’s up to Mickey.”

The Mets captain said he would need some heads-up to get prepared to hit, but he also admitted his expectations are low when it comes to his at-bats this week.

“Hopefully perform is the right word,” Wright joked when asked about his expectations for that final game on Saturday. “After not having an at-bat in a while, I would definitely say that probably contact is what we’re going with right now, as opposed to performance.”
