Body dump rap in death of McHenry
Authorities have determined the overdose death of rising media star Lyric McHenry was an accident, as police revealed early Wednesday they’d arrested a Bronx man for helping dump the pregnant 26-yearold’s body near the Major Deegan Expressway this summer.
Cops found McHenry — whose father is Doug McHenry, a Hollywood producer behind the films “New Jack City” and “Jason’s Lyric” — at 5 a.m. Aug. 14, wearing a paama top and underwear, with a small ziplock bag of cocaine on her. She was 20 weeks pregnant.
According to court documents, McHenry overdosed on a fatal combination of cocaine, alcohol and heroin. On Wednesday, the Medical Examiner announced the cause of death was an accident.
Alexis Mejia-Ramirez, 29, and two other men moved McHenry’s body to an an empty stretch of sidewalk on Undercliff Ave. in Highbridge on the day of her death, police say. Mejia-Ramirez has been charged with tampering with physical evidence and concealment of a human corpse after video surveillance and a “review of phone records” put him at the scene where McHenry was found, prosecutors said.
Police on Aug. 25 released video of a mystery man investigators believe drove off with McHenry early Aug. 14, after a night of partying at the Dream Downtown hotel in Chelsea. And though police said MejiaRamirez was arrested Oct. 15, they wouldn’t explain why the bust wasn’t revealed until Wednesday. An NYPD spokesman also could not say if if Mejia-Ramirez was the man on the video.
No other arrests have been made.
Mejia-Ramirez, who was ordered held on $7,500 bond or $1,500 cash bail, made bail Saturday, public records show.
