‘SUCK ON IT!’

Cora, Sox can’t get Yanks out of their minds at parade . . . and oh, yeah, they broke the trophy, too

- BY ANDY CLAYTON

The Red Sox can’t seem to shake their obsession with the Yankees.

Manager Alex Cora took the latest jab at the Bruised Bombers when he addressed the Fenway faithful before Wednesday’s World Series parade in Boston.

“Think about it,” Cora said, “the New York Yankees, yeah, the sky was falling. You know we lost Game 2 and there was panic in here, everyone was ‘Woah, it’s over.’

“We scored 16 at Yankee Stadium. Suck on it!”

Police commissioner William Gross said there were six arrests. Patrick Connolly, 19, from Sandwich, Mass., was charged with assault and disorderly conduct for allegedly hitting Cora with an unopened beer.

“I love Cora,” Connolly told arresting officers, according to the Boston Globe. “I didn’t mean to hit him.”

There was at least one other casualty — one of the four World Series trophies was damaged when someone threw another can of beer.

Meanwhile, the Red Sox — now winners of four World Series titles this century after easily dispatching the Dodgers in 5 games — kept trolling the Yankees at every step.

Super slugger Aaron Judge certainly didn’t help the matter when he got a little too cocky after the Yankees beat the Sox at Fenway in Game 2 of the ALDS, 6-2, and blasted Frank Sinatra’s Big Apple anthem “New York, New York” as he walked past the Boston clubhouse.

Boston then rolled into the Bronx and handed the Yankees their worst-ever playoff defeat in Game 3, 16-1.

The Red Sox wrapped up the series the following night with a 4-3 victory and sent a clear message to Judge and the Bombers by booming “New York, New York” as they celebrated in the visiting clubhouse.

But that wasn’t the end of the “New York, New York” storyline of the 2018 postseason.

The newly crowned champions still had the Yankees fresh on their minds after capturing the World Series on Monday night at Dodger Stadium. “New York, New York” was again the celebration song of choice.

During the pre-parade ceremony at Fenway, Cora also thanked the fans for supporting the team during what he called a “historic season.” The Red Sox set a team record for regularseason victories with 108 and then cruised through the Yankees, Astros and Dodgers to win a fourth title in 15 years.

Players, coaches and team officials then climbed aboard the amphibious duck boats for a trip through downtown Boston as hundreds of thousands came out on Halloween to salute the Red Sox.

Anti-Yankees chants could be heard along the route.

Start spreading the news, the Red Sox’s first appearance at Yankee Stadium in 2019 is Tuesday, April 19.
